Onishi Gallery is proud to present Issei Hidaka’s solo show “Fantasy World.”
Hidaka uses colored pencils to create precise lines and saturated colors that portray his own unique vision of nature in daily life. We see flowers, birds, trees brought to life by the pulse of Hidaka’s lines and strokes.

His motifs and inspiration manifest themselves in every aspect of his work: we see the clean lines and smooth coloration of Ukiyo-e combined with the intricacy and vividness of mandala and kaleidoscope images. In the way that a kaleidoscope manipulates and recreates light, Hidaka re-imagines the familiar scenes of daily life into a fantasy world.
Issei Hidaka was born in Japan in 1959. He studied art and design at Musashino Art College and Kuwasawa Design Laboratory, Tokyo. This is his first solo show in New York City.
Please note that our Summer Gallery Hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 12 pm to 6 pm.
