Yuichi Hibi is an internationally renowned photographer and filmmaker. His exhibition featured a series of black and white photographs from his first book of photographs, imprint. These images resonate illuminated dark corners and streets where various people inhabit nighttime scenarios. They tell stories of personal discovery between New York City and Japan.

Born and raised in Nagoya, Japan, at the age of eleven, Hibi engaged audiences performing as a circus clown. Perhaps, in 1985, this life experience prepared him to win a significant role in Akira Kurosawa’s “Ran”. As a performer, he has developed an eye framing various interactions between people and places. In a spectrum of black and white, he has captured moods and mysterious sights found in cities.
As a photographer, he has exhibited worldwide in New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, and Berlin. He has become part of a number of gallery and museum collections such as the Santa Barbara Museum. In 2001, Hibi directed a documentary on the photographer, Robert Frank with co-producer Ross Kauffman (2004 Academy A ward winner “Born into Brothels”). In 2006, Nazraeli Press will release a companion book titled, “A Weekend with Mr. Frank”.
