Onishi Gallery at Bergdorf Goodman

1 February - 13 April 2025
Overview

Onishi Gallery is pleased to showcase contemporary Japanese works that celebrate traditional craftsmanship and innovation in this collaboration exhibition with NYC’s most prestigious retail store Bergdorf Goodman and Salon Art + Design, the leading platform for collectible design and art produced by Sanford L. Smith + Associates. It will highlight the work of leading galleries who participated in Salon’s most recent edition in New York City. The reception will be held on February 19th from 5pm to 7pm at Bergdorf Goodman's 7th Floor.

For this exhibition, Onishi Gallery proudly collaborated with HAKUICHI, a metal leafing company in Kanazawa, Japan,  and decorated walls of a dedicated section for the gallery installation with HAKUICHI's metal leafing of pure silver.

Following the inauguration exhibition of Wajima Lacquerware at Onishi Gallery in October, 2024, this exhibition “The Spirit of Noto: Urushi Artists of Wajima” highlights seventeen leading lacquer artists from the region where the traditional Japanese lacquer production has been originated for more than 500 years. Exhibiting artworks involved with several highly skilled techniques such as Maki-e (sprinkled precious metal powders) and Raden (inlay of shell to depict celestial phenomena on lacquer objects).

Paintings on the wall are by David Stanley Hewett, who has lived  and worked in Japan for more than three decades and has strove to master the beauty of Japan by epitomizing the pre-modern ideal of the warrior in visual expression.

We are pleased to welcome George Inaki Root, a new jewelry artist of Onishi Gallery whose work is featured in this exhibition.
